This is a great product and well priced. However, it does still need more refinement. The new latching system is good, but I needed something that was quiet as this is next to bedrooms. So, I put rubber hose around the latch where it strikes the metal. The manufacturer would do well to plastic coat this piece as well as provide a rubber stop when it is full open.

Also, the hinge mechanism sits on a spring that creaks. I took the spring off and replaced it with a nylon bushing. Much smoother and more quiet action now.

Last, when the adjustment knobs are turned out quite a ways, they are wobbly. The female side of the thread for these should be deeper, allowing for a more stable installation.

Looked extensively for tall, wide, freestanding dog gates that would contain my Westie on the porch. Most were too short even for a small dog. I ended up getting TWO of these gates -- tied together at the hinges, they work perfectly. Got another for a wide, awkwardly shaped area at the base of our stairs. These are not really meant for outdoor use, but so far are holding up well. Heavy enough to be stable but can be moved around and reconfigured. For me, they are worth the money!

We did a lot of research before deciding to give this gate a try. It's not the least expensive gate out there, and there's a reason for that. A fair bit of thought has gone into the design and materials of this gate. The description said this was a wrought iron gate. I was expecting some very heavy gate to arrive, but to my pleasant surprise this gate is not that heavy. The weight is somewhere between old world iron and aluminum. We chose the mocha color and it is very attractive. We have received numerous compliments on the appearance of this gate.

Okay, so it looks good, but does it work you ask. Well it works like a charm for our needs, after making one minor addition. We bought the gate with one extension piece to fit our opening. As fate would have it our year old Alaskan Klee Kai (miniature Husky) was still able to squeeze through the side without the extension. She is only about 3" across the head. We thought we would have to return the gate at this point. But then I got an idea to slide a couple of 1/2" plastic spacers (leftover pieces from a Rubbermaid baby car toy) over the threaded rods between the gate and extension piece. This had the effect of moving the opposite side of the gate that much closer to the wall and was just enough to stop our dog from attempting to escape. If you have a breed larger than a Chihuahua you should be fine and not have to bother with this. I just mention it for those with smaller breeds.

We really like the material used for the rubber grips. It is slightly soft and provides a good grip against the wall surface without the need for screws or cups. I really didn't want to mark up our walls and was hoping this gate would help with that. It does! Even though our dog is light and cannot tip the gate over I am confident this would hold firm against much larger dogs. I tried grabbing it and sliding it back and forth against the wall and was unable to. Of course it depends on how much tension you put against the wall by turning the rubber grips with your hand when setting it up. I turned the grip until it just touched the wall and then gave it about another 3/4 turn just to be safe. The small rubber pads that come pre-installed on the bottom of the gate are a nice touch and prevent the metal bar from coming in contact with the floor. I'm sure they add to the gripping factor too.

The latch is a clever design and allows the gate to swing open in either direction. My only pet peeve (small one) is that it's metal on metal when you open the latch and there is a slight squeaking sound. It's not really annoying, but I have suggested to the manufacturer to put a plastic piece in the gate to stop this. I considered taking a star away for this but that wouldn't really be fair. This truly is a very nice gate. We had it set-up within 15 minutes. If you are looking for something besides the standard baby gate and something that will compliment your decor, then I recommend spending the extra money and purchasing this gate.
